Rinus van Raaij

As Managing Director Rinus’ key role is to oversee all parts of the business and to ensure that all team members continue to grow within their roles and with the business.

Roles / Responsibilities

He is responsible for overseeing all operational and financial management of the business, setting strategic direction and leading the SAVE team. His vast industry experience puts Rinus in a position to engage with clients on a strategic level to determine how the social aspects of construction and civil engineering can best be implemented.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Technology (Btech) Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Registered Facilitator, Assessor and Moderator
  • Accredited Mentor for Emerging Contractors

Previous Experience

Rinus has 35 years of experience in the construction industry. He began his career in conventional civil engineering but has since transitioned towards a greater focus on construction’s beneficiaries and the social aspects of the industry. This includes working closely with affected communities and contributing to the human development of construction industry role players.

Who is Rinus?

Rinus loves spending time with his wife and family, particularly enjoying outdoor activities. He also has a strong interest in observing social, political, and religious trends in society.
Rinus has been happily married for more than three decades and has three adult daughters. His family is his most treasured possession.

ASHWIN HENRICO AMBRAAL

As Project Manager, Ashwin’s key role is to give support to SAVE’s training staff and social facilitators, manage the projects and ensures that all training as well as social and community facilitation are conducted to the highest standards.

Previous Experience

Ashwin started his career in 2002 in the construction industry and has worked his way up the ladder to junior site assistant. Over time he grew his breath of experience in Community and Social Facilitation, Training & Development in Civil Engineering and Construction processes and Programme Management and Construction mentoring. During his time at SAVE he has taken SAVE’s philosophy of training seriously and upgraded with a BA Degree and Higher Certificate.
He has successfully managed quit a few long term and multi year training programmes, and has been part of two Upgrading of Informal Settlements Programmes (UISP) which have both received IMESA awards for excellence.

Who is Ashwin?

Ashwin loves watching sport, playing table tennis and continuous learning. Ashwin is also engaged with community upliftment projects in his private time, where he is involved with youth and community football and cricket clubs. He is a firm believer that trust is gained through respect, honesty and professionalism.

LAUREN STRAUSS

Lauren is SAVE’s Education and Training Quality Assurance Manager . This includes oversight of SAVE’s own accreditation as well as involvement in every training project from registration to final certification of every learner.

Consultant on IPTN Projects on Operator Licence and Engagement

Lauren oversees accreditation compliance and manages internal training processes from initiation through to completion. Her role ensures that all training activities align with regulatory requirements, quality standards, and continuous improvement practices. In addition, she act as a consultant on IPTN projects, providing operating licence support, information management, and advisory input on licence applications. Her responsibilities further include stakeholder liaison and consultation, as well as monitoring, compliance, data collection, and reporting.

Previous Experience

Lauren began her career as an educator in 2003. Over time, she expanded her expertise into training administration and quality assurance and now brings more than 25 years of experience in education and training-related fields. Lauren started with SAVE as a Training Administrator.

Lauren loves spending time with her family. Lauren is passionate about training and upliftment, with a strong belief in education as a driver of growth. Creative pursuits keep her inspired and innovative.

ZINZI-KAY APOLLIS

Zinzi-Kay is SAVE’s Office Administrator. She ensures that all aspects of the team’s office and work operations run smoothly and provides support for all project-related administrative functions.

Previous Experience

Zinzi-Kay started her career with the Garden Route District Municipality in 2022 as a data capturer and administrator.

She enjoys learning new skills, supporting her team, and contributing to a smooth and positive office environment. In her free time, Zinzi-Kay loves unwinding with good music, discovering new cafés, and dedicating time to her community and personal development.

SABIHA DOCRAT

Sabiha’s primary roles are Marketing Director and is the lead for Business Development Operations. Her role gets her involved with most aspects of the business and the team.

Previous Experience

Sabiha started her working life in advertising and moved to marketing after 6 years. She has worked with clients across many industries from financial services and retail at a corporate level to developing strategy for SMMEs and QSEs through her own business.

Who is Sabiha?

Sabiha passionately believes in educational opportunities for everyone and is why SAVE is such a natural fit for her. She also enjoys trying new foods and sport. Sabiha likes travel and spends most weekends cycling, trail running and with family and friends. 

The engine of our team is made up of men and women who work within the communities we serve. They conduct accredited training and re-training if need be. They facilitate community engagement and stakeholder collaboration on construction projects. They are present on the ground. Engaging community members, learners, contractors and project stakeholders. Ensuring meaningful participation, clear communication and practical skills transfer.
